Contrary to Rihanna and Chris Breezy’s duet, it was my birthday!
My closest friends helped celebrate my 23rd birthday with a trip to Pearl Dive Oyster Palace, this oyster joint in Logan Circle. The wait was pretty long (Pearl Dive doesn’t take reservations) – about an hour – so we hit up the bar first for a round of drinks. Once we got a large table, we ordered an appetizer of mussels to share: Addie’s Mussels, with garlic, shallots, fumet (food stock added to sauces to enhance flavors), butter, lemon, and grilled baguettes. Ordered a large plate of oysters to share too, with an oyster selection from Rhode Island, the Chesapeake Bay, and California – East Coast and West Coast representation!
I also ordered an entrée of braised duck and oyster gumbo, which was just yum all around. This place is really awesome – it’s got open space, friendly and helpful staff, a cool and relaxed ambiance, and the oysters are fantastic. It’s a bit pricey though and I feel like you could definitely find oysters elsewhere for less money. For instance, Blackbyrd around U-Street has a happy hour special of $1 oysters. I’ve heard BlackSalt is also decent if you want oysters.
*Edit: Amazingly delicious coconut cake from Society Fair! The restaurant sliced it in these ginormous slices for everyone. I wonder if restaurants only know how to cut cake in large slices? But anyways, the cake was so good.
But anyways, it was an amazing birthday!
Bon appétit!
